A July 4th Celebration: A Lakeside Real Log Home in Missouri

The 4th of July is America’s holiday. It marks that summer is in full swing and we look forward to celebrating the holiday by barbequing, swimming, playing badminton and other lawn games and of course, fireworks. In order to celebrate this great country in which we live, we must find an amazing location to host our annual party! The perfect venue to celebrate America is most certainly a Real Log Home. This week’s featured home is a fantastic lakeside log home located in Shell Knob, Missouri.

A Yard Fit For Entertaining

The weather is calling for sunny skies in the mid 80s and you’ve got a log home situated on one of the best lakes in Missouri. This is undoubtedly a recipe for any successful gathering – but for a 4th of July celebration, you want to make sure your yard is extra ready. The large and multi-level property is perfect for entertaining the crowds.

A closer view of the exterior of this lake side log home in Missouri demonstrates a home fit for fireworks! With the American flag raised at full staff on the second floor deck, we can’t help but notice the stunning details of the design of this home. Gable end webbing is a beautiful way of displaying intricate detail on your log home.

Outdoor Seating

Whether inside watching the cook work or outside taking in the views, a log home strives to be one thing above all else – comfortable.

Patio furniture can be the best addition to any deck. The second floor log home deck shown above is made even more relaxing by comfortable outdoor seating. I love the full log post railings!

Indoor Seating

Moving from outdoor relaxation to indoor, we find ourselves in the spacious custom log home kitchen. While Aunt Ginny prepares her famous potato salad and your dad puts the finishing touches on the secret recipe barbecue sauce, take in the beauty of what surrounds you. It’s fairly uncommon to have a full log gable-end cathedral kitchen – and this home showcases this uniqueness perfectly.

Adjacent to the kitchen, we’re able to see the soaring cathedral ceiling on display as well as two structural support beams. These beams provide support to the roof while adding full log aesthetics to the interior of the log home great room.

Lastly, a cozy log home sitting area complete with summer’s favorite furniture – the wicker chair. What the sitting area lacks in square footage it makes up for with its unique vaulted ceiling and full log rafters. Log homes are all about the little details!

Special Gifts to Enjoy in Your Log Home This Father’s Day

Our dads. The guys who carried us on their shoulders, taught us how to chop wood and fish. Sometimes dads can be the hardest people to shop for. Sure, they have their hobbies; hunting, fishing, gardening and taking apart complicated machinery and putting it back together. There’s always the go-to Father’s Day gift – socks, but a man can only have so many pairs of socks.

Let’s uncover some classic Father’s Day gift ideas:

Display His Memorabilia

Log Home Stone Fireplace

The mantle above a Real Log Home custom stone fireplace is the perfect place to display your father’s antique gun collection.

Your dad has a collection of antique rifles that are sitting in the back of a closet in your parent’s house. With your mom’s permission, polish those beauties back to life and head to your local hardware store for mounting tools. Install the mount when your dad is at work (or running errands) and after he goes to bed on Father’s Day Eve, gently place the newly polished guns on the their new mount. Make sure to put a hand written card on the mantle below as well. Dad will be blown away and love that he can admire his prized collectibles he’s always wanted to show off but never had the time to display!

Clean & Organize His Man-Cave

Log Home Custom Garage Addition

You’ve heard the phrase before but didn’t realize your home had one too. The garage, barn, shed – whatever the space your dad puts his tools, cars and heavy machinery is sure to be one of his favorite places hang out. This weekend, clean and organize your dad’s man-cave or buy him a new toy to store in it. In the photo above, a Real Log Home custom garage addition looks to be a place that could use another toy.

Log Home Garage

This is the same custom log home garage addition, but pictured above is the workshop bay area. Another idea would be to setup racks or shelving for your dad’s tools or organize his gardening machinery in a way that makes it easier for him to move stuff in and out. Score extra points on Father’s Day by mowing the lawn!

Build a Fire Pit

Log Home Custom Fire Pit

The back yard of this Real Log Home has a stone walkway leading down to a rustic fire pit.

You could also buy one, but the concept is the same. Create an outdoorsy space suitable to roast marshmallows, tell ghost stories and sit next to the camp fire with your “old man.” Simply dig a pit to put your logs in and put some chairs or benches in a circle around the pit. You could also buy a fire pit from your local Home Depot that sits on top of the ground. After dinner on Sunday, lead your dad to your fire pit spot and ask him to do the honors lighting the match. Have your Hershey’s chocolate, marshmallows and graham crackers ready for roasting!

A Weekend Getaway

Log Home Country Cabin

You know that awesome Real Log Home cabin that’s been in your family for years? Take your dad there for a special Father’s Day fishing trip this weekend. Pack the rods, bait and tackle and head down to one of your dad’s favorite spots. Even if you don’t fish, spending quality time with dad is the only objective for this Sunday.

Getting your Real Log Home Ready For Barbecue Season

With Memorial Day weekend upon us, it’s time to clean your outdoor grills, uncover your pools and make sure your outdoor furniture is ready for your family. The task of getting your Real Log Home ready for the summer season seems daunting, but if you focus on one thing at a time on your ‘To Do’ list, you’ll feel less stressed and get everything accomplished with plenty of time to relax before the party starts.

Easy Flow of Traffic

There’s a reason we call it spring cleaning! We can’t have our family and friends bumping into patio furniture or the badminton set as they navigate around the property. Set aside some time to place outdoor furniture in convenient locations – where people will have easy access to sit down, but avoid tripping as they walk from your gorgeous kitchen onto your outdoor patio. When you walk around your home and yard, think of the most used paths where people will be walking. If your kitchen  leads onto your deck, make sure chairs are pushed away from doors and that doors are able to fully open without bumping into people sitting down.

Cooling Off

After barbequing and playing games on the lawn, a pool is the obvious choice for a quick cool-down during your summer festivities. The patio below offers quite a view of the log home resting atop a hill surrounded by lush vegetation. Be sure to sweep extraneous leaves or dirt off the patio and vacuum your pool so it looks extra inviting.

Comfortable Seating

It’s always fun to have games set up on the lawn when friends and family come over for a summer barbeque, but it’s just as important to make sure you have plenty of comfortable seats to take a load off. From cushioned patio chairs to chaise lounges – there are a number of options that will keep family and friends happy and relaxed.

Log Home Exterior Pool

The home above uses over sized wooden patio dining to create comfort for their guests. Adjacent to the outside dining, cushioned chaise lounge chairs are sprinkled around the amazing in-ground pool. One of my favorite features happens to be the pergola over the patio dining. This creates a great shaded space to escape the afternoon sun while hosting your party. This photo leads us right into our next topic…

Shaded Spaces

Log Home Deck

Hosting a Memorial Day weekend party is usually the kick-off to your summer festivities. During your barbeque, it’s important to remember that while guests love spending quality time with you outside, it’s equally as important to shade them from the sometimes scorching afternoon sun.  Utilizing spaces that offer a respite from the heat, while still enjoying your home, offers friends and family the best of both worlds.

The Real Log Home above demonstrates how you can host guests comfortably at your home, while providing shade from the heat.

The log home below incorporates my favorite summer dining furniture – a picnic table with benches! The wrap-around farmers porch casts constant shade throughout the summer and gives you a relaxing place to watch the birds and enjoy BBQ brisket with family.

Making a Colorful Statement in Your Log Home

Using color in your log home sounds simple – of course there’s color in your home – but it’s how you use color that will really enhance the beauty already found there. There are a multitude of ways to exemplify the natural beauty of your log home by using color in thoughtful and specific ways. From kitchen cabinets to accent walls, lets uncover some great ways to add more color in your world!

Pop of Color

It’s a phrase I keep hearing related to design and aesthetic. The rustic Real Log Home bathroom (below) allows the beauty of the wood to do much of the work here. The indigo blue accessories and counter vase add wonderful pops of color against the log wall, antique finished cabinets and claw foot tub.

Accent Walls

Accent walls can create the illusion of space by drawing your eye to the point of color. In the Real Log Home hallway shown below, the home owner chose a cheerful green to display at the end of the balcony. The effect creates depth and interest and helps to display the beautiful custom Adirondack-style railings.

Bold Patterns

When you think of color in your home, you can’t overlook how much life a great pattern can add to a room. In the photo below, we actually have dual patterns working together to create a visual masterpiece! The boldness of the rug paired with the patterned wallpaper makes this dining area a joy to walk in to.

We can’t forget about bedrooms when it comes to adding color! I love the patchwork patterned comforter and window treatments here.

Colorful Kitchens

The log home kitchen (below) demonstrates that you can use your decorations to add splashes of color in your beautiful kitchen. I love the way this kitchen plays up all things blue! The candlesticks, tiled floor and framed photograph adds an array of different shades, shapes and styles.

The log home kitchen below is one of my absolute favorites! There’s something about red stained cabinets that really take this kitchen to a whole new level of fun! I love the way the color offsets the wood and allows the sun to do its job by enhancing the beautiful cabinets.

We hope we’ve helped to inspire some colorful choices in your log home! If you have questions about any of the log homes featured here, contact us at directly at info@realloghomes.com, call us 800- REAL LOG (732-5564) or ask us on our Facebook page!

Hunting Cabins – Real Log Cabins™

Here in New Hampshire and Vermont it’s quite obvious that deer hunting season is underway.  Stopping for coffee on the way to work is full of cheerful “good mornings” from neon-orange capped men, and every so often a loud crack echoes through our small river valley.  And while these signs of hunting season are obvious to everyone, we here at Real Log Homes® are noticing one other sign of hunting season:  inquiries for hunting cabins.

The Expedition Cabin

This is an "Expedition" model cabin just built in Minnesota

Well, ask and you shall receive!  Real Log Homes® are ideal for hunting cabins, and we even have a special line of cabins called Real Log Cabins™.  These log cabin kits are simplified versions of our homes and can be built very quickly thanks to our extensive pre-cutting.  From small and simple, with room only for two bunks, a couch, table and counter with a sink – all the way to two story cabins with bathrooms and private bedrooms, Real Log Cabins™ can suit almost any need.

Here is the smallest standard log cabin from Real Log Homes®, “The Weekender”.  This 224 square foot log cabin would make a perfect hunting cabin for short hunting trips, or weekend getaways.

The Weekend Log Cabin

"The Weekender" - Real Log Cabin model

The largest standard model log cabin from Real Log Homes® is The Cavendish.  The Cavendish is 1136 square feet with two stories.  It has two stories, two bedrooms and a full bathroom as well as full kitchen.  It could comfortably sleep up to 7 and would make an ideal hunting cabin for extended hunting trips for larger groups.
